CONDER/dance Mission Statement
CONDER/dance is a dance company composed of passionate people with common goals:
to excel in art and strengthen human values through creative research. Since its
founding in 2003 by Carley Conder, the company has expanded to a strong group of
unique contemporary dancers. Conder's work demands technical strength and artistic
vision from each dancer. Each member is a creator in their own right, often being
called upon to contribute movement material and ideas. In addition to developing
and performing Carley Conder’s work, the company also commissions dance work from
nationally recognized choreographers. CONDER/dance have commissioned work by Keith
Johnson, Mary Fitzgerald, Stephanie Nugent and Stephen Koester.
We have enjoyed
full performance seasons in Arizona as well as shows in Alaska , Utah , and recently
New York as part of the Wave Rising Festival 2007. In 2007, CONDER/dance assumed
a new role as curator and presenter as they produced Breaking Ground 2007, a showcase
for new and established choreographers. They also had the opportunity to go into
Tempe and Mesa high schools for artistic residencies as well as teach creative
dance at the ASU Art Museum ’s Family Fun Day. CONDER/dance is supported by the
Arizona Commission on the Arts, Tempe Cultural Services, Target Arts Grants, and
individual donors. We continue to look for new ways to embody what inspires and
give back to our community.
