A dual-citizen of Poland and the U.S., Maya Toczek is a bilingual dance artist and educator. She graduated from the Accelerated Dance Program at Cornish College of the Arts, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance in the spring of 2020. Maya received an “Outstanding Achievement in Dance” recognition for three consecutive years while attending Cornish, awarded to students who demonstrate perseverance and continual growth within their technical and artistic dance studies. She performed the works of Wade Madsen, Patricia Hon, Alana Isiguen, and Gérard Théorêt for Cornish Dance Theater. Maya had the honor of working with Gilbert Small, former dancer and rehearsal director for Ballet BC on her senior Capstone solo. Gilbert’s imparted knowledge through the choreographic process remains incredibly influential on Maya’s ideas about performance, movement and space. Outside of Cornish, Maya has performed the work of Bruno Roque in Pacific Northwest Ballet’s Outside In performance. She served as an education and outreach intern at Pacific Northwest Ballet under the direction of Naomi Glass. Maya currently teaches contemporary ballet at Gotta Dance Company and this is her first season with CONDER/dance.
