Carley Conder

Ecstasy of Betrayal

This tiny dance explores the ideas of nostalgia and decay; both contrary to Wright’s relentless thirst for innovation and discovery. The work serves as a foil to what we know about the values that Wright spent his life developing and defining.  Presented as an alter ego that embraces sentimentality, glamour and deterioration, this dance looks to answer the question “What if?” in relation to Frank Lloyd Wright and his implacable persona.

Carley Conder is Artistic Director of CONDER/dance, founded in Arizona in 2003. She is currently a Full-time Instructor for the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University. Carley's creative work has been presented by White Wave at Dixon Place (NYC), Chez Bushwick at the Center for Performance Research (Brooklyn), WestFest at the Martha Graham Studios (NYC), Wave Rising at the John Ryan Theater (Brooklyn), and the Cama-i Dance Festival (Alaska). She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet and Master of Fine Arts in Modern Dance from the University of Utah.  Carley has been the recipient of arts grants through the City of Tempe, Arizona Commission on the Arts, Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction, Target Arts Grants and the Consulate General of Israel.
